Important Message for SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company Customers

SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company (SEMCO) received an order on December 6, 2019 in its general rate case application that was filed with the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) on May 31, 2019 requesting authority to change its rates.

The MPSC approved a $19.9 million rate increase for SEMCO customers.

The new rates will be implemented in January 2020.

The average SEMCO customer can expect to see an increase of approximately $4.00 per month, about 8%.

The new rates reflect the significant infrastructure investment that SEMCO has made in Michigan over the past decade, and will continue to make for the foreseeable future, by upgrading its facilities, addressing new regulatory requirements, improving safety, increasing reliability and improving customer service.

In addition, SEMCO will implement a new low-income program targeted to assist approximately 12,500 customers.

SEMCO’s last base rate increase occurred January of 2011.
