How to Contact MISS DIG 811
You can reach MISS DIG 811 by phone or online:
- Dial 811 – This toll-free, nationwide “Call Before You Dig” number automatically routes your call to the local system.
- MISS DIG 811 will notify utility companies to mark underground lines at no cost to you.
Why You Must Call
Michigan law requires property owners to contact MISS DIG 811 at least three business days before digging. This prevents injuries and damage to:
- Natural gas and oil lines
- Electric, telephone, and cable lines
- Water and sewer facilities
Failing to call could result in costly repair bills for damaged utility-owned lines.
What MISS DIG 811 Does Not Cover
If you have customer-owned pipes or lines in the project area, you are responsible for locating and marking them. These include:
- Lines between the meter and your appliances
- Connections to yard lights, pool or spa heaters, garages, workshops, and similar areas
