WINTER PROTECTION PLAN (WPP)
CONTACT:
SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY
EFFECTIVE DATES: November 1-March 31
You qualify for the plan if you are 65 years of age or older and notify SEMCO ENERGY that you are eligible. You also may qualify for the plan if you have a household income at or below 150 percent of poverty level as shown in the income guideline chart below or if you receive assistance from DHS, including food stamps, SSI or Medicaid.** Participation in the Winter Protection Plan does not relieve the customer of responsibility for paying for natural gas usage, but will prevent heating season shutoff if on time payments are made. At the end of the protection period, both senior citizen and low-income customers must make arrangements to pay off any arrears before the start of the next Winter Protection period.

HOUSEHOLD SIZE MAXIMUM INCOME
One $16,245
Two $21,855
Three $27,465
Four $33,075
Add $5,610 for each additional household member
*PROVISIONS:
  • Customers must apply through SEMCO ENERGY for the program and within 14 days must demonstrate having made application for state assistance.
  • You may sign up beginning November 1 by paying a minimum of 1/12th of any past due amount.
  • If you qualify, you will pay 7% per month of your estimated annual heating bill during the Winter Protection period plus a portion of your arrears.
  • When the Winter Protection period ends March 31, your payment amount will change. You must pay your full monthly bill plus part of the amount you owe from the Winter Protection period in equal installments. You may also choose to pay the remaining Winter Protection period balance or pre-enrollment balance and go on the Flex Budget Payment Plan.
