Winter Protection Plan

ELIGIBILITY: You may qualify for the plan if you have a household income at or below 150 percent of poverty level. The income guidelines are listed in the chart below. You may also qualify for the Winter Protection Plan if you are at least 65 or you receive assistance from DHS, including food stamps, SSI, or Medicaid.

PROVISIONS:
Each month of the heating season, qualified applicants will be required to pay 7 percent of their estimated annual heating bill, plus a portion of their arrears. After March 31, the payment amount will change. Winter Protection customers will pay their full monthly bill plus a portion of the balance remaining from the heating season. They may also choose to pay the remaining heating season balance or pre-enrollment balance and enroll in the Budget Billing Plan.
Customers must apply through SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company for the program and must demonstrate having made application for state assistance. Applicants may enroll November 1 by making a required budget payement. Please contact SEMCO ENERGY Gas Company for your budget amount.
